This project was done with the intention of learning the game character workflow, inspired by the style of the Overwatch characters. The entire process took me 4 weeks to complete. The model is my take on Mubaijin’s concept: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/q90d8N
I started by making the high-resolution sculpt in Zbrush, where I tackled things like geometry hair, clothing, and gear for the first time. The low-poly version was made using Maya, and the texture work was completely done using Substance 3D Painter. There are 3 different UV sets: body, hair, and eye; these sets have a resolution of 2048x2048. One of the biggest challenges when texturing was getting desirable results when trying to make “hand-painted” details and getting the Overwatch look using Substance Painter. The lighting and rendering were done in real-time using Sketchfab. I learned a lot with this project, and I will work hard to make improvements for my next model, both in the time needed to complete it, the final look, and the presentation.
